Why Shop Local

Hear ye, hear ye!

There are many reasons to support local Sequim businesses!
small businesses we stand togetherBusinesses local to the area help shape the community. They provide local flavor, and as opposed to the big, national businesses, they help to grow the city. The chain stores and big box stores, with their ubiquitous nature, make everywhere look the same. They push out the local stores too, meaning there are fewer jobs in the area, making people commute more (although that’s not a problem if you like traffic…) creating more pollution due to more cars being on the road (again, not a problem if you hate the environment).

Additionally, by supporting local businesses, more dollars stay in our community!
When buying from corporations more of your money goes to that corporation, and out of Sequim – however, at local businesses, much more of that money stays in local circulation.

According to Civic Economics, “A purchase from an independent bookseller produces more than 2x the local economic activity as the same purchase from Barnes & Noble, and 4x more than Amazon.” This money helps stimulate the local economy and supports the community, rather than nationwide monopolies. Also, small businesses are much more likely to support charities and nonprofits than bigger ones.

And finally, local businesses are just better places to interact with. You can forge personal connections with the much more friendly staff and employees – who are often very knowledgeable about what they’re selling.

Shopping Local in Sequim

Local Sequim stores also offer more diverse and interesting products than the national corporations and adjust their inventories according to what locals want, meaning you have more influence and importance in the store, just by deciding to buy there.

And there ye have it: local businesses have it all, and deserve ye support. So take action and shop at ye local store!
